Training day 1

Walked for 15 minutes this morning, then did stretching exercises for 10. Don't know how far I walked, need to replace the battery in my pedometer. On Friday, I went to Modell's and bought new sneakers to replace the ones I've been using since the 2006 3day walk.

What's New

I've decided that I want to try to get into a healthy shape by doing the Broad Street Run, http://www.broadstreetrun.com on Sunday, May 1, 2011. It is a 10 mile run down Broad Street in Philadelphia. My youngest daughter, Alyssa; my son in law, James; and James' father, Thom, did the run in 2010.
I am not a runner, haven't walked since the cooler weather of spring. But I am doing a 13 week training program, "The Beginning Runner's Handbook: The Proven 13-Week Walk/Run Program," by Ian Macneill, recommended by James. He is a charter school running coach in Texas.
I am starting the running program on Monday, August 16. while it is uncomfortable outside I will be using the tradmill at Ladies Workout Express. When the weather gets cooler, I will be using the trails at Mercer County Park, on my way home. And when it gets too cool outside, I'll be back at the treadmill.
The 13 week walking program graduates to a 13 week walk/run program, taking me to Feb. 14, 2011. Then another 10 weeks to train to run 10 miles. Follow my journeay as I train. I covet your prayers during this time.
